  • Leadership and Strategic Growth
  • Recent Acquisition of Propine Holdings

Komainu, a regulated crypto custodian founded as a partnership between Nomura, CoinShares, and Ledger, has raised $75 million from Blockstream to expand its services globally.

The money, provided in Bitcoin (BTC0.85%), would allow the firm to integrate Blockstream’s technology, such as the Liquid Network, which will speed up margining and settlement solutions.

“We are thrilled that Komainu has chosen Blockstream’s multiple technology streams to improve its institutional service offering. This demonstrates the fundamental truth of Bitcoin technologies and applications.”
Said Blockstream CEO Adam Back.”

Komainu intends to incorporate Blockstream’s AMP technology, automating its regulated asset support for tokenization. The company will also employ Blockstream’s corporate HSM wallet to provide services to institutional customers.

Robert Johnson, Komainu’s co-CEO and CTO, commented on the funding, stating that the relationship with Blockstream “will maximize efficiencies and lower latencies across the various services that we offer.”

Adam Back, Peter Paul Pardi, and Nicolas Brand will join Komainu’s board of directors as part of the fundraising arrangement, according to reports.

This funding comes shortly after Komainu purchased Singapore-based Propine Holdings, a digital asset custodian, earlier in 2024. Propine has been in operation since 2018 and got a provisional license from the Monetary Authority of Singapore in 2019.

Komainu entered the cryptocurrency market in 2020, providing institutional investors with custody services for Bitcoin and other large-cap altcoins.

Komainu’s $75M Bitcoin boost from Blockstream, emphasizes institutional confidence in crypto custody innovations. This signals growing trust in regulated solutions, boosting market optimism. Investors see potential for enhanced security, efficiency, and global adoption, likely increasing demand for institutional-grade services and solidifying crypto’s position as a mainstream asset class.
